Dreams In Prussian Blue
Dreams in Prussian Blue, by Paritosh Uttam, is an interesting fictional tale of two youngsters, and their story full of love, agony, cheating, and hatred. A young artist, Michael, and his college-mate Naina, fall in love while they studied together, but their love story wasn’t usual and predictable like anyone else around them. The life they pick to follow, and the hurdles and road-blocks they face make the prime theme of this book.
Naina is astonished when Michael proposes to her about dropping out from college and entering into a live-in relationship. Naina is thrilled with the proposal of living with Michael, but soon this excitement is gone after she starts facing the emotional reactions of Michael, which are violent and extreme. Naina manages to live with them, until soon she is asked to take care of the entire household while Michael wishes to spend his entire time painting. She has to live this colourless life while Michael paints in his room alone. Naina holds herself with patience until one fine day Michael loses his sight in an accident, and becomes even more emotionally violent. Soon the couple realises that they are stuck into a relationship poisoned by cheating and lies.
Their life after they realise the new turn their relationship has taken, and their disturbed minds deciding what should be done next makes this book not just enticing fiction, but also a captivating tragedy addressing a practical angle in human life. Dreams in Prussian Blue was published by Penguin India in 2010. The book is available in paperback.
